It was made at the Saint-Cloud factory, near Paris, one of the earliest European factories to make soft-paste porcelain. Saint-Cloud aimed to provide oriental-style wares for the wealthy home market. The underglaze blue decoration has only a passing resemblance to oriental decoration however, as the factory's painters copied designs by the important French decorative artist, Jacques André du Cerceau.","physicalDescription":"Beaker decorated in underglaze blue with a geometric pattern of alternate tall and shorter flowers in vases on stands; border decoration at top and base.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Saint-Cloud porcelain factory","id":"A12332"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Soft-paste porcelain","id":"AAT10665"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Soft-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Tea, Coffee & Chocolate wares","id":"THES48886"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AH2662","2017KB3417"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"23","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"cups","id":"AAT43202"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1695-1710","earliest":"1690-01-01","latest":"1710-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by J.
