Gillet, from several Paris addresses between 1855 and 1880. In 1857 he patented <i>couleurs nacrées</i> ('pearly colours') based on bismuth-gold, uranium and palladium salts. This lustrous glaze became the firm's speciality, applied to many wares in a variety of style. Indeed, a critic at the international exhibition, London, 1862, where this cup and saucer were shown, felt their use of the technique was neither discriminating nor novel. However, the jury's Report thought the wares of 'extreme brilliancy and the delicacy of the tints'..would counter any 'objection that might arise on the charge of meretricious glitter'.","physicalDescription":"Porcelain cup and saucer; straight sided cup, round saucer, porcelain with pink lustred glaze and gilded rim.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Brianchon, Jules Joseph Henri","id":"A12306"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Gillet et Brianchon","id":"A32226"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"porcelain","id":"AAT10662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"},{"text":"gilded","id":"AAT53789"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Porcelain with lustred glaze and gilded","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Porcelain","id":"THES48907"},{"text":"Tea, Coffee & Chocolate wares","id":"THES48886"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2006AG8653"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"139 (VA)","id":"THES49874"},"free":"","case":"C1","shelf":"2","box":""},{"current":{"text":"139 (VA)","id":"THES49874"},"free":"","case":"C1","shelf":"2","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"cups","id":"AAT43202"}],[{"text":"Saucer","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca 1862","earliest":"1862-01-01","latest":"1862-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology, Jermyn Street","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"12","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"6.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'G.
