The queen commissioned it almost certainly for the Petit Trianon and this is reflected in the elegantly ‘natural’ decoration and subtle gilding, a design hand-selected by her. Each piece is bordered with luminous grey pearls and decorated with a scattering of purple-blue cornflowers, a humble wildflower associated with the Petit Trianon. The service is a true representation of Marie Antoinette’s personal style and the rustic country style of which she was a principal proponent.","physicalDescription":"Plate, soft-paste porcelain, 6 large, 6 small lobes, decoration of cornflower sprigs and strings of pearls painted in enamels and gilt on a white ground.
