Although it is known as The Spirit of Fire, there is no indication of any such part on the programme and this may be a term used by the production team to describe a particular routine. \r\nThe costume could almost be called a 'Bob Fosse' uniform. Fosse, the legendary choreographer and musical show producer, co-wrote Chicago and died on the opening night of the New York 1987 revival. Over the years, first as a dancer and then as choreographer on dozens of shows, he devised a very characteristic style and costume for himself and then his dancers - based on a shirt, waistcoat and trousers with the trademark bowler hat.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Long, William Ivey","id":"A12955"},"association":{"text":"costume designer","id":"AAT163428"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":"THES268477"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2020ML3633","2020ML3668"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES366831"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES366831"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES402711"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342294"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES342294"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}],[{"text":"Musicals costume","id":""}],[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}],[{"text":"Musicals costume","id":""}],[{"text":"T-shirt","id":""}],[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}],[{"text":"Musicals costume","id":""}],[{"text":"Hats","id":"AAT46106"}],[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}],[{"text":"Musicals costume","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Theatre costume","id":""}],[{"text":"dance costume","id":"x34504"}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Musicals costume","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1997","earliest":"1997-01-01","latest":"1997-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"NCOL.755-2017","id":"O1427200"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"Given by Billy Chicago Ltd","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Costume designed by William Ivey Long for the Spirit of Fosse in Kander and Ebb's musical Chicago in the 1997 London revival, worn by Daniel Crossley.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Costume designed by William Ivey Long for the Spirit of Fosse in Kander and Ebb's musical Chicago, London 1997, worn by Daniel Crossley.
