In each unit a meditating Buddha seated on a high, drapery- hung base with a nimi behind the heads of the Buddhas.\r\nThe main frieze has a border decorated with a rather large astragal. Only a small part of the scene is preserved. Two male figures holding a begging bowl are shown in profile. The begging bowls identify them as two of the four lokapalas offering alms to the Buddha. In the background a deva appears from the waist up probably throwing flowers in order to celebrate the miraculous event.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"schist","id":"AAT11626"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand carved","id":"x30667"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Grey schist","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"},{"text":"Architectural fittings","id":"THES48994"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2019ME5514"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES373770"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Fragment","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Gandhara","id":"x32655"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"4th century","earliest":"0300-01-01","latest":"0400-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Langford Jones Bequest","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"0.40","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"0.24","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Given by Langford Jones.\n","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Relief of Offering of Four Bowls, grey schist, 4th century AD, Gandhara.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Ackermann, Hans Christoph. <u>Narrative Stone Reliefs from Gandhara in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
