On the right, the Buddhas sits in meditation, flanked by three standing male worshippers. In the middle scene, a Buddha sits in abhayamudra with a bodhi tree in the background. On either side Indra and Brahma are seated with hands in worship towards the Master. The figure of Indra is recognizable by his turban, on the right we see Brahma with the ascetic's braid. The scene presumably represents the Gods inviting the Buddha to deliver the First Sermon.\r\nOn the left scene three monks sitting one behind the other in meditation are preserved.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"schist","id":"AAT11626"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand carved","id":"x30667"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Grey schist.","categories":[{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Archaeology","id":"THES48874"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2019ME6081"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"008","id":"THES373771"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Frieze","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Gandhara","id":"x32655"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"4th century","earliest":"0300-01-01","latest":"0400-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by Langford Jones","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"0.10","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"0.29","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Given by Longford Jones.\n\n","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Relief of Buddhas and worshippers, grey schist, 4th century AD, Gandhara.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Ackermann, Hans Christoph. <u>Narrative Stone Reliefs from Gandhara in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
