The motif suggests that it was used for what the Chinese considered that 'foreign' drink – wine made from grapes.\r\n\t\r\nThe piece dates from the Tang dynasty (618-907), an era when China was in close contact with the Middle East and the West. Trade flourished along the famous Silk Road. The Chinese people were fairly receptive to the customs and habits of other cultures, including drinking wine made from grapes as opposed to the traditional Chinese wine made from rice.","physicalDescription":"Glazed eathenware bowl with moulded relief of stylised vine, amber outside, green inside","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Earthenware, glazed and with moulded decoration","categories":[{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"}],"styles":[{"text":"Tang","id":"AAT18420"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2008BR9644","2006BB4152"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"32","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"BOWL","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"China","id":"x29398"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"6th century-7th century","earliest":"0500-01-01","latest":"0700-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by J.
