A plaster mould such as this object would then be made and filled with molten wax. The mould would have been immersed in hot water to stop it from being porous to the molten wax and the inner face would have been lubricated with oil to ease removal. The relief would then be hand-finished by the artist. \r\n\r\nThe mould depicts William Pitt.","physicalDescription":"Plaster mould.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Andras, Catherine","id":"A8090"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Plaster","id":"AAT14922"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Plaster","categories":[{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Politics","id":"THES48908"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AE4872"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES395998"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Mould William Pitt","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"19th century","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Rupert Gunnis Bequest","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"17.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"57.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"4.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Dimensions are for the entire frame.","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Rupert Gunnis Bequest.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Plaster mould, depicting William Pitt (1759-1806, second from right), English, by Catherine Andras (1775-1860), 19th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Trusted, M, (ed.) <u>The Making of Sculpture.
