He collaborated closely with C R Mackintosh on the design of the first two tea rooms for Miss Cranston in Glasgow. In the early 1900s, with shops in Glasgow, York and London, Walton was at the height of his success. His biggest single commission was to design showrooms for Kodak in London, Glasgow, Brussels, Milan and Vienna. After 1910, the work began to diminish since Walton found it difficult to adapt to new fashions.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Walton, George","id":"A8964"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"William Comyns and Sons Ltd.","id":"A9254"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"bone","id":"AAT11798"}],"techniques":[{"text":"forging","id":"AAT54033"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Forged silver, polished, attached to a shaped bone handle","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Tableware & cutlery","id":"THES48888"},{"text":"Eating","id":"THES48963"},{"text":"Scotland","id":"THES262877"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"67","id":"THES49731"},"free":"","case":"20","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"67","id":"THES49731"},"free":"","case":"20","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Fork","id":""}],[{"text":"knife (culinary tool)","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1902-1903","earliest":"1902-05-29","latest":"1903-05-28"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs George Walton","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"17.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"London hallmarks for 1902-3","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Mark of William Comyns and Sons","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Acquisition RF: 53/454\nMrs George Walton Gift\r\nMade for George Davison","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Silver fruit knife and fork with bone handles, London hallmarks for 1902-3, mark of William Comyns","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Moon, Karen, <font -u>George Walton, Designer and Architect</font>, Oxford, White Cockade Publishing, 1993.
