Bottle tickets identified the contents of a bottle or decanter, which might alternatively contain spirits, sauces, toilet waters or cordials. Contemporary gazettes begin to refer to ‘labels for bottles’ in the 1770s but it was not until the 1790s that they were established as wine or decanter labels. \r\n\r\nThese tickets also illustrate in miniature the skills of the silversmith over the last two hundred years. While the variety of styles and materials was enormous, silver bottle tickets tended to reflect the fashionable designs and technical advances in metalware generally.","physicalDescription":"Bottle ticket (one of set of six) with the word \"BURGUNDY.\" Silver, pierced and engraved, ribbon shaped surmounted by a wreath and crest of an armoured arm embowed grasping an arrow (Hales, an extinct Baronetcy by 1806); chain attached.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Drinkwater, Sandylands","id":"A11108"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"piercing","id":"AAT231153"},{"text":"engraving (incising)","id":"AAT53829"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2012FE5041"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"67","id":"THES49731"},"free":"","case":"4","shelf":"6","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bottle ticket","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1755","earliest":"1750-01-01","latest":"1759-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"AM/MET/0001","id":"ARC257664"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"P.
