Very little is known about him although he was lending silver to the V&A from 1865. His taste for 18th and early 19th century silver filled gaps in the Museum's collections. The base of the jug is incised 'Angell and Company, 10 Strand, London'. The firm of Joseph Angell traded at this address from about 1849-1880 and advertised 'a large stock of second-hand and antique plate' for sale in 1851.
