When Ernst Augustus became King of Hanover in 1837, he took with him a large amount of English Royal silver, which Queen Victoria later unsuccessfully tried to reclaim. This candlestick, which is from a set of four, was presumably supplied by to him by Rundells. It is an exact copy of a Paul Crespin candlestick of about 1747 in the collection of the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey.
