There is a duplicate set in the collection of the Duke of Beaufort. This naturalistic design is in the form of a growing vine, at the base of which sit four putti symbolising religion, piety, gentleness and humility. The Hon. Victoria Alexandrina Jocelyn was a god daughter of Queen Victoria who gave similar christening sets to her other godchildren. Victoria Alexandrina Jocelyn, was the daughter of Lady Jocelyn, a Lady of the Bedchamber from 1841 to 1867.","historicalContext":"The Hon. Victoria Alexandrina Jocelyn, although not recorded in ‘Burke’s Peerage’, is thought to have been the eldest child of Robert Jocelyn, styled Viscount Jocelyn, and his wife Frances Elizabeth, youngest daughter of the 5th Earl of Cowper whom he married on 27 April 1841.  Lady Jocelyn was a Lady of the Bedchamber from 1841-1867 and chosen by Queen Victoria as one of her train bearers at her Coronation.  She was a member of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert.","briefDescription":"Silver-gilt, London hallmarks for 1842-3, mark of Mortimer and Hunt","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"See 1961 Christie’s Royal Gifts Exhibition for Beaufort version"}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[{"text":"Victoria (Queen of Great Britain and Empress of India)","id":"N2035"}],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"vine","id":"AAT132406"},{"text":"laurel","id":"x44943"},{"text":"putti","id":"AAT250465"},{"text":"snake","id":"x30204"},{"text":"lion","id":"x30150"},{"text":"lamb","id":"x30134"}],"contentConcepts":[{"text":"religion (concept)","id":"x37580"}],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["CIRC.171-1963","CIRC.171A-1963","CIRC.171B-1963"],"accessionNumberNum":"171","accessionNumberPrefix":"CIRC","accessionYear":1963,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE","Cup","Lid","Liner"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-12","recordCreationDate":"2004-03-03","availableToBook":false}}
