Murphy (1884-1939) interpreted contemporary trends. The shape is simple, with clean lines and very little decoration. The ball-shaped knop, which was cast in a mould, has restrained horizontal lines. \r\n\r\nMurphy was one of the more progressive English silversmiths. He trained in London at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and then studied briefly in Berlin. In 1913 he established his own workshop, the Falcon Studio, in London. He also taught at the Royal College of Art and later at the Central School, where he became the first silversmith to be appointed Principal.","physicalDescription":"Tall trumpet shaped vase on a ball shaped annulated with a reeded band.
