He set up in partnership with Alwyn Carr in 1899. After the First World War, Carr left the partnership and Ramsden managed the studio and workshop alone. He was particularly successful in producing well-made silver in a fashionable Arts and Crafts style. The antiquary St John Hope, who introduced him to the first Keeper of the V&A Metalwork Department, William Watts, had kindled Ramsden's interest in historic silver.","physicalDescription":"Silver, circular, in the form of a Tudor Rose, raised and chased with eight cast feet.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Omar Ramsden","id":"A8772"},"association":{"text":"designer and maker","id":"x34662"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"},{"text":"raising","id":"AAT237068"},{"text":"chasing","id":"AAT54016"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver, hand-raised and chased, with cast feet","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Food vessels & Tableware","id":"THES48952"}],"styles":[{"text":"Arts and Crafts","id":"AAT21205"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006AP9692"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"68 (VA)","id":"THES49730"},"free":"","case":"6","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sweetmeat dish","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1925-1926","earliest":"1925-05-29","latest":"1926-05-28"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by HM Queen Mary","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"5.0","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"16.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Base: OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT, maker OR, sterling, leopard, date letter K (1925-6)","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":"A8728"},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"Omar Ramsden made me","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Royal","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":"A8728"},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"In the form of the Tudor Rose","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":"A8728"},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Acquisition RF: H.M Queen Mary\nGift - Queen Mary","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Sweetmeat dish, silver, London hallmarks for 1925-6, mark of Omar Ramsden","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"Tudor roses","id":"AAT164986"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"SWEETMEAT DISH\r\nLondon, 1925-6\r\nMark of Omar Ramsden\r\nInscribed around the base, OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT","date":{"text":"2000","earliest":"2000-01-01","latest":"2000-12-31"}}],"partNumbers":["M.9-1932"],"accessionNumberNum":"9","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":1932,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-12","recordCreationDate":"2004-03-03","availableToBook":false}}
