Typically painted in blue, these would cover huge areas of church walls as well as their barrel-vaulted ceilings. In palaces and grand houses tilework formed a continuous dado around grand rooms, along corridors and up staircases. This panel was part of such a scheme in the Music Room of the Quinta Formosa in Lisbon. Its exuberant decoration is typical, with figurative scenes set within a framework of trompe l'oeil pilasters, caryatids and other architectural ornament.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tin-glaze earthenware, painted","categories":[{"text":"Access_to_Images 2003","id":"THES48875"},{"text":"Tiles","id":"THES48884"},{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Earthenware","id":"THES48964"},{"text":"SCRAN","id":"THES48897"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2011FB2689","2016HY7814","2016HY7815","2016HY7816","2006AG1335","2011FB2694","2011FB2688"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"3","id":"THES263060"},"free":"","case":"SC2","shelf":"SOUTH","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lisbon","id":"x32942"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"probably"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1720-1730","earliest":"1715-01-01","latest":"1730-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"140","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"389","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"From register"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased as a group, with C.48-53-1973, from Solar-Albuquerque & Sousa, Rua D.
