This medal, representing Hans Ebner, was originally attributed to Hans Schwarz, but the style of the medal and its approximate date suggest otherwise. The obverse shows an almost frontal portrait in remarkably high relief. Schwarz invariably portrayed his subjects in profile, and in flatter relief. The age of the sitter (61), and the known date of his death (1553) suggest a comparatively late date for the medal, long after the end of Schwarz's known working life. The same anonymous medallist may have produced the medal of Johann II von Sponheim. The reverse of this medal is likely to date from after the sixteenth century; its heavy wreathed border, and unclear coat of arms suggest a later pastiche.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"lead","id":"AAT11022"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lead","categories":[{"text":"Coins & Medals","id":"THES48974"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AF4779","2006AF6001","2006AF5998","2006AF5955","2006AF5919","2006AF5917","2006AF4872","2006AF4811","2006AF4859"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"017","id":"THES395576"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medal","id":"AAT46025"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1535","earliest":"1530-01-01","latest":"1539-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"4.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"56.5","unit":"g","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"Obverse","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Provenance: Tross. 140 medals and reliefs were purchased from M.
