The style of the medal suggests the work of the nineteenth-century medallist Johann Wilhelm Sommer (b. 1806-1872). According to the compilers of the catalogue of the Kress Collection, the stone model for the medal was in the possession of Freiherr Guido von Volkamer of Munich. \r\n\r\nSebald Schreyer (1446-1520) was the Nuremberg Stadtschreiber and Kirchenpfleger of St. Sebald. The image on this medal may be based on an 18th century engraving after one of the contemporary representations of him.","physicalDescription":"Obv. only, bust of \"Sebald Schreier\" facing right, clean-shaven. wearing a cap and gown.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Sommer, Johann Wilhelm","id":"A12075"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":"probably; there is a Dürer monogram"}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"lead","id":"AAT11022"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lead","categories":[{"text":"Coins & Medals","id":"THES48974"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Fakes & forgeries","id":"THES48958"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2006AF5920"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"016","id":"THES395575"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medal","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1512","earliest":"1512-01-01","latest":"1512-12-31"},"association":{"text":"dated","id":"AAT54714"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"9.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"343.7","unit":"g","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'SEBALDVS - SCHREIER'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"Obverse","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Obverse"},{"content":"'1512'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"Obverse, in the field to the left of the bust","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Date","note":"Date; Obverse, in the field to the left of the bust"},{"content":"'AD'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"Obverse","script":"","translation":"Dürer's momgram","transliteration":"","type":"Monogram","note":"Monogram; Obverse"}],"objectHistory":"Provenance: Tross. 140 medals and reliefs were purchased from M.
