This was a new kind of collection. It was unlike the encyclopedic historic collections of the British Museum or the Bodleian Library in Oxford. From the beginning, the Museum tended to buy ready-made collections. This example is from a portfolio of cuttings from an Italian choirbook. The Museum bought it from J. & W. Boone in 1866 for £15. The ornament is made up of festooned vases and acanthus leaves. Near the top is a cherub clinging to a vase.","physicalDescription":"Specimen of a manuscript","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Morone, Domenico","id":"A11991"},"association":{"text":"attributed to","id":"THES286691"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"parchment","id":"AAT11851"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"pigments","id":"x33204"}],"techniques":[{"text":"illumination","id":"AAT220539"},{"text":"writing","id":"AAT54698"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Water-based pigments, gilding and ink on parchment","categories":[{"text":"Manuscript cutting","id":"THES275182"},{"text":"Manuscripts","id":"THES48922"},{"text":"Medieval and renaissance","id":"THES271264"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2009CD9557","2006AT7621"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLE","id":"THES49657"},"free":"","case":"I","shelf":"30","box":"C"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Manuscript","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Verona","id":"x32566"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"early 16th century","earliest":"1500-01-01","latest":"1550-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"4916","id":"O120001"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4917","id":"O1042234"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:2","id":"O93963"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:3","id":"O93964"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:4","id":"O93966"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:5","id":"O93968"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:6","id":"O93969"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:7","id":"O93947"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:8","id":"O93970"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4918:9","id":"O93972"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4919","id":"O1012734"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4920","id":"O1012733"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4921:1","id":"O1012732"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4922","id":"O1012728"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4923","id":"O1012727"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4924","id":"O1012726"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4926","id":"O1023020"},"association":""},{"object":{"text":"4927","id":"O1023019"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"470","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"85","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Probably part of a larger group that belonged to a Franciscan convent's antiphonary.\nPart of a group of 11 cuttings which came to the museum in 1866 from T. & W.
