Even in the wealthier households children’s beds, cupboards and tables were often adaptations of adult-sized pieces. Children’s chairs seem to have existed in all the vernacular traditions, but the Windsor chair, as seen here - a rural type originating in the mid-18th century - was by far the most popular.","physicalDescription":"Child's Windsor chair (armchair) of carved and turned yew and elm wood.  The stick back is rounded at the top, with the splat carved in openwork with curving comb-like tracery at the top and a keyhole-like motif near the base.  The middle horizontal rail of the back curves out into the arms, which link to the seat with angled uprights.
