According to information received with the object, in the Meiwa era (1764-1771) there was a deluge in the village of Takawaka, in Etchu Province. Those that survived the flood believed they had been saved by Sakyamuni, the historical Buddha. In gratitude they wove this hanging depicting Sakyamuni and presented it to the local temple.","physicalDescription":"Temple hanging woven with image of Sakyamuni, the historical Buddha.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"},{"text":"human hair","id":"AAT11820"}],"techniques":[{"text":"weaving","id":"AAT53642"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silk woven with human hair","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"}],"styles":[{"text":"Edo","id":"AAT106643"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2006AN1552"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES306281"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1770-1820","earliest":"1770-01-01","latest":"1820-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by T.B.
