It was situated on the second floor of her house at 5 Princes Gardens in the South Kensington area of London. Here her daughter Clementina poses beside a mirror. A movable screen has been placed behind it, across the opening into the next room. A side table at the left balances a desk at the right. The figure of the young girl is partially balanced and echoed by the camera reflected in the mirror and the embroidery resting on the table beside it.\r\n\r\nHawarden appears to have worked with seven different cameras. The one seen in the mirror is the largest. Possibly there is a slight suggestion of a hand in the act of removing and/or replacing the lens cap to begin and end the exposure.","physicalDescription":"Sepia photograph, mounted on green card, of a young woman posing beside a miror in which a camera is reflected.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Hawarden, Clementina (Viscountess)","id":"A8493"},"association":{"text":"photographer","id":"AAT25687"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Albumen process","id":"AAT133274"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Photograph","categories":[{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"},{"text":"Photographs","id":"THES48910"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Scotland","id":"THES262877"}],"styles":[{"text":"Victorian","id":"x29321"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AF4332"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"X","shelf":"33H","box":"XVI"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"photograph","id":"AAT46300"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"South Kensington","id":"x31226"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1862-1863","earliest":"1857-01-01","latest":"1866-12-31"},"association":{"text":"photographed","id":"x30151"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Lady Clementina Tottenham","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"21.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"23.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"From departmental notes\r\n\r\n'Clementina, Lady Hawarden (Untitled) Photographic Study (or) Study from Life (D.559) c.1862-c.1863 5 Princes Gardens, interior: first floor, front: starred wall-paper: floor-boards: Clementina, standing, right elbow on cheval-glass (which reflects camera on tripod, and window and balustrade behind her), right hand on temple, left hand on cheval-glass frame.
