He holds a pot or bag of coins in one hand and makes the gesture of giving with the other. He is shown with a pot-belly and thick limbs,   associated with his wealth and virility, and is surrounded by jars similarly indicating this sense of abundance. The figure is cast in a copper alloy using the lost-wax method. Stylistically, it dates to the 9th or 10th century and was likely made in Java, Indonesia.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"copper alloy","id":"x40014"},{"text":"","id":""}],"techniques":[{"text":"lost-wax","id":"AAT53113"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Lost-wax casting, copper alloy, bronze","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Hinduism","id":"THES48941"},{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"},{"text":"Bronze","id":"THES49033"}],"styles":[{"text":"Late Central Javanese Period","id":"x30311"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006BC5180"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES368216"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Figure","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Java","id":"x30310"},"association":{"text":"cast","id":"AAT53104"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"9th century-10th century AD","earliest":"0800-01-01","latest":"1000-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with funds provided by the Neil Kreitman Foundation [precise wording to be confirmed]","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Purchased from Jonathan Hope, 20 Roland Gardens, London SW7 3PH.  for £4000. and funded by the Neil Kreitman Foundation.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Seated figure of Kubera, copper alloy, Java, 9th or 10th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[{"text":"Buddhist","id":"AAT73738"}],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["IS.59-1998"],"accessionNumberNum":"59","accessionNumberPrefix":"IS","accessionYear":1998,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-06-25","recordCreationDate":"1998-10-08","availableToBook":true}}
