She produced as many as 80 commissioned designs a year, such as this one, for master weavers and mercers. She lived and worked in Spitalfields, London from about 1730 until her death in 1763. Her interest in natural form--and her talent for depicting it--characterized her designs throughout her professional life.","physicalDescription":"Design for a woven silk","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Garthwaite, Anna Maria","id":"A8416"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour on paper","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"},{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AF3743","2019MD3555"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLC","id":"THES49171"},"free":"","case":"T","shelf":"202","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"designs","id":"AAT102051"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Spitalfields","id":"x29420"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1752","earliest":"1752-01-01","latest":"1752-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"T.36-1973","id":"O361528"},"association":""}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"37.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"design","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"25.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"design","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'Mr Julin Octr ye 25: 1752'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"'Reversd'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"Two-thirds of the way up the right-hand side of the drawing","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Two-thirds of the way up the right-hand side of the drawing"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Design for a woven silk by Anna Maria Garthwaite, Spitalfields, 1752 - 1753.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Rothstein, Natalie. <font -u>Silk Designs of the Eighteenth Century.</font> London: Thames and Hudson Ltd, 1990.
