Their intention was to provide work for local people, and to revive Hungary's folk art traditions in a new meduim. The lace they produced was given the name 'Halas', an abbreviation of Kiskunhalas. It was exhibited and awarded prizes at international exhibitions during the first decade of the century, its most successful period, and continued to be made in the same style, often using the same designs, through the 20th century. The figures on this panel represent the characters Jancsi and Iluska from Hungarian folklore.","physicalDescription":"Needle lace picture","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Dékáni, Árpád","id":"A11756"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"needle lace","id":"AAT231662"}],"techniques":[{"text":"needle lace","id":"x29416"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Needle lace","categories":[{"text":"Lace","id":"THES48926"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2019LM6782","2019LM6812","2006AH1517"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"012","id":"THES313012"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Insertion","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hungary","id":"x28910"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1902-1906","earliest":"1902-01-01","latest":"1906-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Gyula Mihalik","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"13","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"13","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"panel of needle lace depicting couple (Jancsi and Iluska), Hungarian (Halas), early 20th century","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.202-1921"],"accessionNumberNum":"202","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":1921,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-30","recordCreationDate":"2004-02-09","availableToBook":true}}
