It is in the fashionable Neo-classical style of the period, which took inspiration from the art and architecture of the classical world. The scene possibly depicts the figure of Victory crowning a woman with a laurel wreath within a temple. Suspended above the figures are the coat of arms of the city of Leiden, flanked by the arms of two unidentified families. The numerals XXV (25) are engraved on the central brazier, which with the family arms, suggests this plaque may commemmorate a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Mittsherlich was a German goldsmith and artists who spent most of his working life in Amsterdam.","physicalDescription":"Plaque in the form of a neo-classical temple surmounted by an urn and laurel wreaths and enclosing two figures: Victory about to crown a woman with a laurel wreath","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Mittscherlich, Christoffel","id":"A11742"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[{"text":"Neoclassical","id":"AAT21477"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006AL0208","2019LX2058","2019LX2051"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"69 (VA)","id":"THES49729"},"free":"","case":"23","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Plaque","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Amsterdam","id":"x28722"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1785-1790","earliest":"1780-01-01","latest":"1790-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"14.00","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"8.50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"0.50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Engraved on base of urn: XXV","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":"A8728"},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"Signed at the base of the righ hand column: C.
