The size of the initial suggests that it may have come from a manuscript that was intended to be read from farher away and possibly by a large group (perhaps a choir).\r\n\r\nInitials\r\nRecto: pink initial 'A' with green borders and white filigree ornamentation. A green acanthus leaf adorns the upper left corner of the initial. Inside of the closed counter (fully enclosed interior space of an alphabetic letter) is a tonsured monk in profile wearing a brown hooded habit with his hands raised in prayer. He is set against a blue background decorated with white stars. The entire initial is set against a bakcground of burnished gold leaf (gold paint that has been polioshed to shine). \r\n\r\nVerso: The reverse side is inaccessible because the initial is pasted down onto card.
