The maker has very delicately executed the embossed decoration, with many gradations of relief. He demonstrates a skillful use of matting and pouncing tools, which when struck on the surface on the metal in close formation form a dulling effect which contrasts effectively with the plain shiny surfaces. Some of the leaf shapes resemble pea pods, a very popular motif in the first half of the 17th century. The gauge of the metal of this cup is exceptionally thick for German silver of the period.","physicalDescription":"Foot raised and embossed. Beading cast and applied. Stem cast in one piece.
