Trade between Russia and Scandinavia, and the migration of Scandinavian goldsmiths to Russia from the early 18th century, resulted in the exchange of designs and ornament. \r\n\r\nThe tankard is decorated with scenes of a youth carrying a potted shrub, a hunter with his gun and a leaping stag. These are framed by asymmetric scrolls and shell decoration typical of the Rococo style, which was popular throughout Europe in the mid 18th century.","physicalDescription":"Narrow, cylindrical tankard with hinged lid standing on 3 cast ball feet the body and lid condensed chased decoration, a plain band beneath the rim, with applied cast handle in the form of 2 back to back scrolls.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Chased silver","categories":[{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2006AK5405"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"69 (VA)","id":"THES49729"},"free":"","case":"CA009","shelf":"001","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tankard","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Moscow","id":"x32457"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1750","earliest":"1750-01-01","latest":"1750-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Varley Bequest","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"11.00","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"foot","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"16.50","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"13.20","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"On base: town mark for Moscow, maker’s mark (?)
