In structure, it is similar to the nursery rhyme 'Old MacDonald Had Farm'. Each verse is about one of the animals he keeps with accompanying noises, and ends with the line 'Says I, My pretty lass, will you come to the banks of the Aire oh?'.\n\nLike the accompanying 'The Queen of Hearts', 'The Farmer's Boy' had both full page colour illustrations and smaller spot illustrations in line work.
