Steiner & Co. in 1903. It is characteristic of the exotically hued, dynamic Art Nouveau textiles popular in continental Europe at this time.\r\n\r\nFrederick Steiner was a chemist who came to Britain in the early 19th century and established his high quality printing firm in Lancashire. The firm remained independent when many other Lancashire firms joined the Calico Printers' Association in 1899. F. Steiner & Co. bought textile designs from leading British freelance designers as well as from France and Belgium where the vogue for Art Nouveau patterns was stronger than in Britain.","physicalDescription":"Furnishing fabric","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Steiner & Co.","id":"A9228"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Cotton","id":"AAT14067"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Roller printed cotton","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006BF7898","2006BC9030"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"011","id":"THES309178"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Lancashire","id":"x28962"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1903","earliest":"1903-01-01","latest":"1903-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the manufacturer","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"57","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"76","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Roller printed cotton furnishing fabric manufactured by F.
