Curtain of two joined widths of block printed woollen fabric edged in green twilled woollen braid. The design, of meandering naturalistic peonies, roses and bamboo leaves in red, blues, pinks, brown and green is a traditional Bannister Hall print of the 1830's adopted by Morris as one of three designs; the first to be sold by his firm. The blocks, were printed with aniline dyes by Clarksons for Morris and sold throughout the life of Morris & Co. In the twentieth century the design saw a revival in the increased popularity of floral chintz patterns and there is evidence that the design was available until 1940. One of the earliest fabrics to be printed with this design, this wool has a selvedge mark.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.","id":"A1197"},"association":{"text":"retailer","id":"AAT25246"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wool","id":"AAT243430"},{"text":"dye","id":"AAT13029"}],"techniques":[{"text":"block-printing","id":"AAT53289"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Block-printed wool","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AT7230","2012FJ5562"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES312214"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Furnishing fabric","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"retailed","id":"x30772"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1868","earliest":"1863-01-01","latest":"1872-12-31"},"association":{"text":"retailed","id":"x30772"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mr and Mrs M.
