A female in classical costume stands before him holding up a vase of antique form. Above are the words SCIENCE APPLIQUE ET VULGARISE; and beneath CHARLES CHRISTOFLE 1805 1863. On the left a nude girl is seated, holding a hammer, whih rests on an anvil by her side, whilst in the distance is a factory with the word ART above. It is signed by 'L. Roty', the leading French medallist of the late nineteenth century.
