He relished the idea of using such a process of mass-production as an artform and exploited line block’s potential for describing both bold lines and solid expanses of black. This magazine, which was initiated by Beardsley, became one of the most widely recognised symbols of the Aesthetic Movement. A photomechanical technique, line block involved photographing an image and exposing it onto a light-sensitized metal (usually zinc) plate, which was then relief-etched.","physicalDescription":"Line block print of a page from The Yellow Book, with image on the left of a figure with long dress and hair playing the piano, title of the magazine on the right.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Beardsley, Aubrey Vincent","id":"A8134"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"AAT14109"}],"techniques":[{"text":"line block printing","id":"x37720"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Line block print ","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Printmaking techniques","id":"THES252987"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2024NU4132","2006AU2919"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"EDUC","shelf":"9","box":"C"}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1890s","earliest":"1890-01-01","latest":"1899-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Frederick H.
