The habit of snuff-taking spread to China from the West during the 17th century and became established in the 18th century. People generally carried snuff in a small bottle. By the 20th century these bottles had become collectors' items, owing to the great variety of materials and decorative techniques used in their production.","physicalDescription":"The bottle is shaped in the form of a leaf, very flattened, with a short cylindrical flared neck. It has a flat stopper with rounded finial.\r\nThe bottle is made of porcelain, glazed white, moulded in low relief. The stopper of shell and ivory.\r\nThe decoration consists of a key-fret diaper pattern enclosed within a border of the same shape as the bottle; a border of leaves around the edge;  a prunus blossom motif at the neck.
