Some of them had settled in Constantinople in the 10th century, living near where the Yeni Cami now stands, until the whole quarter was destroyed by fire in 1660. They were resettled by the Sultan Mehmet IV at Hasköy (literally 'royal village') on the upper reaches of the Golden Horn, near Beyoglu.
