On top is the ruined north tower of Egmond Abbey at Egmond-Binnen, a village about 8km west of Alkmaar. It is seen from the south-southeast, with two cows in front and two figures clambering on a low wall of stones at left. In the roundel on the bottom are the remains of Op den Hoef castle at Egmond aan den Hoef, situated 1km west of the abbey. The castle is seen from the southeast, across the moat, with a shepherd and shepherdess and their flocks resting near a large boulder in the foreground, and a tree framing the composition on the right.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Goeree, Jan","id":"AUTH333087"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Pen","id":"x47746"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"grey wash","id":"x43741"},{"text":"red chalk","id":"AAT80064"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawing","id":"AAT54196"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pen and black ink, with grey wash, over traces of red chalk; pinholes at centres of the two roundels (where circles were drawn with compasses) and the contours indented with a stylus; framing line in black ink.
