The château was rebuilt to an austere and modern design for one of the country's richest noblemen, Anne de Montmorency, following his appointment as Constable of France. For the production of the tiles, Montmorency turned to Masseot Abaquesne, a potter from Rouen. This section of paving is from the first series of tiles to be made for the château, in 1542.","physicalDescription":" In the centre, an escutcheon bearing the lilies of France, surrounded by the collar of the Order of St Michael; around are interlaced Ds and crescents.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Workshop of Masseot Abaquesne","id":"A11400"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"earthenware","id":"x29356"}],"techniques":[{"text":"tin glazing","id":"x36216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tin-glazed earthenware, painted","categories":[{"text":"Earthenware","id":"THES48964"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2019MH2925","2006AG1337"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES343065"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Panel","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Rouen","id":"x32531"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1542","earliest":"1542-01-01","latest":"1542-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"66","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"approx.","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"From the Château d'Ecouen.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Panel of 36 tiles, earthenware covered with a tin glaze and painted in colours.
