The literary contents of the magazine were marked by a sharp satirical edge well-matched by its avant-garde graphic styling. <i>Pan<i> promoted the newly fashionable Art Nouveau style, as well as the work of Symbolist painters such as Arnold Böcklin. Many artists, including the prominent Berlin illustrator Joseph Sattler, contributed to <i>Pan's<i> striking series of colour lithographed covers.","physicalDescription":"Photo-chromolithographic illustration","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Joseph Sattler","id":"A11337"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Chaix","id":"A32190"},"association":{"text":"printers","id":"x31107"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"},{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"}],"techniques":[{"text":"chromolithograph","id":"x44031"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"photo-chromolithograph","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Periodicals","id":"THES48913"},{"text":"Illustration","id":"THES48938"},{"text":"Printed pages & sheets","id":"THES48904"}],"styles":[{"text":"Art Nouveau","id":"AAT21430"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006AG2303","2006AN9795"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLF (VA)","id":"THES49656"},"free":"","case":"TOPIC","shelf":"1A","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Photo-chromolithograph","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Paris","id":"x29068"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1895","earliest":"1895-01-01","latest":"1895-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed and published","id":"x35383"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Mrs Gabrielle Enthoven OBE","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"39.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"23.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"15.75","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"1938","earliest":"1938-01-01","latest":"1938-12-31"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"11.375","unit":"in","qualifier":"in","date":{"text":"1938","earliest":"1938-01-01","latest":"1938-12-31"},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Joseph Sattler.
