To achieve this Burman often used herself as the subject to investigate and to highlight the problem of stereotyping experienced by these artists.\r\n\r\nIn this witty, colourful, yet moving self-portrait, Burman uses the visual language of the street – graffiti - to simultaneously assert one identity and deny another. This is one of a series of eight prints commissioned by Walsall Museum and Art Gallery in which other works, created by the same method with laser print and car spray paint, are inscribed with commands and assertions such as \"Don't Judge a Book by its Cover\" and \"Stereotypes Reinforces Mystery Izzat\".","physicalDescription":"Laser-printed self portrait close-up of face, over which has been spray-painted in graffiti style the words 'This Is Not Me'.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Kumari Burman, Chila","id":"A11334"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"ink","id":"AAT15012"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Colour laser prints on paper","categories":[{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"},{"text":"Feminism","id":"THES48955"},{"text":"Black History","id":"THES48989"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2022NF8800","2006AG6382"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"WN001","id":"THES388268"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1992","earliest":"1992-01-01","latest":"1992-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the artist","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"77.9","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"59","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"image","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"84.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"support","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"59","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"support","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Chila Kumari Burman: colour laser print 'This Is Not Me', 1992","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Lynda Nead: Chila Kumari Burman Beyond Two Cultures.
