The scene includes vibrant red hollyhocks beside two classical urns and a canopy of leafy branches.  The accuracy of the flower painting is a clue to where the fan was made. English fan artists and designers were renowned for their precise interpretations of flowers and foliage. The light floral border, the sea-shells and the ornate curling branches are in the Rococo style.  However, the sticks are Chinese in origin.
