They depicted highly romanticised views of landscapes and rural pursuits. Antoine Watteau was a well-known French painter of pastoral scenes. His works served as models and inspiration for many fan painters throughout the century. This fan clearly shows Watteau's influence. A group of prosperous young men and women have escaped to an isolated meadow to eat, drink and play music. The pastel colours and delicate forms reflect the influence of the Rococo style.","physicalDescription":"Painted leaf with pastoral scene.
