By the time he made this ensemble, he had stopped designing commercially. In 1973 Alice Pollock dissolved her partnership with Clark. A year later his marriage to Celia Birtwell ended. Alfred Radley provided financial backing and Clark attempted several design comebacks. They were unsuccessful. Nevertheless, the elaborate quilting of this 'glam-rock'-inspired jacket is among some of Clark's best work.","physicalDescription":"Evening ensemble consisting of a quilted gold leather jacket, bustier and purple lace skirt.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Ossie Clark","id":"A11431"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"leather","id":"AAT11845"},{"text":"lace","id":"AAT132861"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Quilted leather and machine-made lace lined with palin weave cotton and polyester","categories":[{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"},{"text":"Evening wear","id":"THES48999"},{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Leather","id":"THES49030"},{"text":"Glam rock","id":"THES291513"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AT5399"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307522"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307522"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"010","id":"THES307522"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Skirt","id":""}],[{"text":"Evening jacket","id":""}],[{"text":"Basque","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Great Britain","id":"x32019"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1976","earliest":"1976-01-01","latest":"1976-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer, in memory of Janey Ironside","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"This outfit was worn once, by Marie Helvin, the model and wife of the photographer David Bailey.
