The petals of the flowers are delicately hatched in red with white hatchings at the edges.  The leaves and stems are washed in with a pale green with the veinings picked out in an ox-blood reddish brown colour.  The serrated tips of the leaves are painted in a darker green. The ground out of which the plant is growing is indicated by a ring of small-scale leaves resting over a thatch of wispy grass or moss.\r\n      The painting is mounted with an inner border of strips of greenish-grey paper collaged to the outer border and outlined in black.  The outer border is of a plain ivory colour with strips of buff-coloured paper at the margins of the page outlined  in black. It contains 56 leaves on which are Mughal miniature paintings, drawing and flower studies on both sides. The binding is covered with an Indian brocade.
