It is typical of the type of dress worn by Chinese women at the end of the 19th century. It is a three-quarter length garment and it would have been worn with a wraparound skirt.","physicalDescription":"Jacket for a Han Chinese woman (<i>ao</i>), made of pale blue gauze weave silk patterned with chrysanthemum flowers and embroidered with silk in shades of red, pink, blue, green, orange, yellow and white in satin, long and short and stem stitches with Pekin knots and couched white silk cord.
