As the name suggests, the church of Saint-Pierre-du-Chatel was dedicated to St Peter. This panel is one of three that depict important episodes relating to Peter and the early years of the Christian church. \r\n\r\nDuring his lifetime, Christ named Peter as the leader of the Apostles and thus the foundation stone (Latin <i>petra</i>) of the church. \r\n\r\nIn the first scene depicted here, the Resurrected Christ appears to Peter before the rest of the Apostles, thus affirming Peter’s leading position.","physicalDescription":"Christ appears to St. Peter after the Resurrection.\r\nChrist, wearing a red robe with white and gold trim and a rich gold brocaded inner lining, stands on the left of the panel.
