All the prints show examples of elements of ancient Roman architecture. Lafrery was a very successful Italian printer and print dealer. In 1573, he was the first person anywhere in Europe to have the idea of producing a catalogue of the prints he had for sale. His catalogue gives a description of his sets of architectural prints. It reads, 'Books of cornices, capitals and bases after the antique ruins that you can daily discover in Rome'.","physicalDescription":"Engraving","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Monogrammist PS","id":"A10522"},"association":{"text":"engravers (printmakers)","id":"AAT25165"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Lafrery, Antonio","id":"A10520"},"association":{"text":"publisher","id":"x32600"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"engraving","id":"AAT53225"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Engraving on paper","categories":[{"text":"Ornament prints","id":"THES49038"}],"styles":[{"text":"Renaissance","id":"AAT21140"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2013GN8632","2017KE0505","2017KE0791","2017KE1317"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"EO","shelf":"131","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"print","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Rome","id":"x29106"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1537","earliest":"1537-01-01","latest":"1537-12-31"},"association":{"text":"engraved","id":"AAT53829"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"ca. 1573","earliest":"1568-01-01","latest":"1577-12-31"},"association":{"text":"published","id":"x30682"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"17.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"size of plate","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"12.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"size of plate","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'PS'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"Monogram","note":"Monogram"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Plates (30) on fifteen sheets of cornices, capitals and bases of Antique buildings in Rome.
