The bed has elaborate legs, and is covered with cushions and hanging draperies. The Buddha is wrapped in a long sanghati. Unfortunately the head is missing. At the foot of the couch stands the monk Mahakasyapa who touches the Master's foot with his right hand, while his left hand holds a pole with a bud-like top, probably a pilgrim's staff. Behind him we notice a straight tree. Three male figures stand erect behind the death bed with arms raised in lamentation. (Probably Malla princes who later distributed Buddha's relics).","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Schist","id":"AAT11626"}],"techniques":[{"text":"hand carved","id":"x30667"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Grey schist","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Buddhism","id":"THES48984"},{"text":"Architectural fittings","id":"THES48994"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2021MW2566","2021MW2569","2014HG4303","2017KE2386"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"004","id":"THES373858"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Fragment","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Northwest Frontier","id":"x32936"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"Takht-i Bahi, Mardan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly North West Frontier Province), Pakistan"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"About 200","earliest":"0200-01-01","latest":"0200-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Presented by the Punjab Government","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"0.165","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"0.23","unit":"m","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"\nPresented by Punjab Government\r\n","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Relief fragment showing Mahaparinirvana of Buddha, 200AD, Grey Schist, Takht-i-Bahi.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Ackermann, Hans Christoph. <u>Narrative Stone Reliefs from Gandhara in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
