They are painted directly onto the off-white ground of the paper and comprise a pink flowered stem and leaves at the top above a small orange-flowered plant on the left and a yellow lily plant with a full bloom and bud on the right hand side. The plants are painted alike with details and outlines painted in either deeper tones or in the case of the lily in the contrasting colour of red against a yellow ground, using loosely hatched lines,  The painting is framed with strips of pale buff-coloured paper outlined in black with two further lines ruled in black ink on the main ivory-coloured plain border.  The page has roughly cut strips of grey paper laid along the margins of the page with two inner lines in black ink. The right hand margin shows sign of damage which may indicate where a former paper gutter was attached. It contains 62 leaves on which are Mughal miniature paintings, drawing and flower studies on both sides. The binding is covered with an Indian brocade silk that may have been cut from lengths brought home by the 2nd Lord Clive, who served as Governor of Madras, 1799 to 1803.
