Entitled Anglomania, a reference to England, the collection was presented in Paris, France. During the show the supermodel Naomi Campbell fell while wearing the extremely high shoes, which have heels of 28 centimetres. Campbell, whose forename is handwritten on the inner sole in capital letters, has explained that the rubber tights worn with the shoes played a part in the iconic fall which caused a media sensation. When the model presented much the same ensemble again the stockings were gone and Campbell had been given a walking stick. Back in control, she held the stick in front of herself to demonstrate her command of the situation. The Victoria and Albert Museum acquired and displayed the shoes during that same year.","physicalDescription":"Bright blue punched leather 'mock-croc' platform shoes, blue silk ribbon laces, platform soles, 23 cm long, 30.5 cm high.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Vivienne Westwood","id":"A4913"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"leather","id":"AAT11845"},{"text":"silk (textile)","id":"AAT243428"}],"techniques":[{"text":"shoe-making","id":"x40339"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bright blue punched leather, blue silk ribbon laces","categories":[{"text":"Womenswear","id":"THES49044"},{"text":"Footwear","id":"THES48951"},{"text":"Fashion","id":"THES48957"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2006AT6643","2006AR0398","2006AR0397","2006AM4877","2013GA8950","2014HH1780","2014HH1781","2014HH1782","2014HH1783","2014HH1784","2014HH1785","2014HH1786","2014HH1787","2014HH1788"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES385812"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES385812"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}],[{"text":"Shoe","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1993","earliest":"1993-01-01","latest":"1993-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"4th quarter 1993-1st quarter 1994","earliest":"1993-10-01","latest":"1994-03-31"},"association":{"text":"retailed","id":"x30772"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the designer","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"27","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"21","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Registered File number 1993/633.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"‘Super Elevated Gillie’ platform shoes from the ready-to-wear Autumn/Winter 1993 collection Anglomania, blue imitation crocodile skin leather and blue silk ribbon, Vivienne Westwood, UK, 1993","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Baker, Malcolm, and Brenda Richardson (eds.), A Grand Design: The Art of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London: V&A Publications, 1999.","id":"AUTH348910"},"details":"","free":""},{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Stanfill, Sonnet, and Elisabeth Murray (eds.), NAOMI: In Fashion (London: V&A Publishing, 2024), pp.158–63.
